The free, ad-supported streaming video market is getting extremely competitive. The location of the Play button varies depending on the device you're using. This has always been the case, ranging back to unpublished novels and short stories stashed in desk drawers, to garage bands toiling away without a recording contract. What is different today, of course, is that producers of content now have access to potential audiences that was largely missing in previous generations. Another distinguishing characteristic of the activities of today's audience is their demonstrated willingness to allow others (typically media organizations) to capture the revenue generated by their aggregated efforts.
OT: I've never used the term Street Lit in my life. When Sister Souljah wrote her book "The Coldest Winter Ever" that's when you started hearing the term Street Lit. In 1992 and 1993, my books were called Urban Classics from day one. I suppose the new generation wanted to be more hard core. I'm a professional. I took that term "urban" from the radio. I was a college educated dude who had respect for the black community. Urban is a catch word for black people who live in the big city. It doesn't have to necessarily mean poor or degenerate.
