The thirteenth season of the American TV series Supernatural is set to premiere on October 11th, 2018 in the United States. But who can think of impending doom when watching such a stunningly gorgeous movie? And it really is stunning. More than anything else, Fehérlófia is a breathtaking piece of animation. Jankovics uses a color scheme of audaciously bold and vibrant colors mixed with glowing pastels. The result is a dreamy kaleidoscope of entrancing hues. The style is fluid, as shapes unfurl seamlessly into other shapes. The frames are symmetrical, psychedelic visions of ancient memory with all of stylistic innovations of the last century. Though I shared the story of Fehérlófia, and it's nice to follow along, it's really not necessary. Story comes completely secondary to power of the aesthetic Jankovics creates. It's hard to look away, hard to blink even. So sit back, throw in some eye drops, and let yourself get whisked away by tales of yore and colors anew.
Though it's adapted from very different source material, and co-written with Michael Green (who worked on Heroes and Smallville), American Gods feels like a stylistic sequel to Hannibal, with the first two episodes directed by one-time Hannibal regular David Slade. Except this eight-episode story's supernatural overtones feel considerably more appropriate to Fuller's baroque, nightmarish-operatic flourishes than Hannibal's serial-killer antics which, quite frankly, became so overwrought they got silly.
In the meantime we've had just one thing to sustain us - feverishly trying to find out everything we can about Game of Thrones season eight, from the storyline and returning characters to exactly when we'll actually see the last battle for Westeros erupt across our screens - and as we edge ever closer to the series airing, we're only getting more invested in the whole thing.
